Schoonmaker Gift Supports Clinic Expansion

Neighborhood Health Clinic (Clinic) announced that a $1 million gift from Schoonmaker Foundation is being used to advance critical infrastructure and diagnostic improvements across Women’s Health, Cardiology, and Lab/Pathology services which strengthens access to earlier detection, faster answers, and more precise treatment pathways for the Clinic’s patients: low-income, working but uninsured Collier County adults.

All care at Neighborhood Health Clinic is provided at no cost to patients. By helping working adults stay healthy and on the job, the Clinic supports a stronger local economy because a healthy workforce keeps the community thriving.

How the Gift Is Being Used

Women’s Health: Expanding targeted diagnostic testing and supplies

The gift is being used to strengthen Women’s Health services with a Vaginal Health Analyzer and related supplies, along with expanded Hepatitis B & C panels and HPV testing supplies and reagents. These resources support more accurate diagnosis and treatment of conditions that disproportionately impact women, including gastrointestinal infections, reproductive health issues, and viral infections. The on-campus availability of this testing reduces delays between symptoms, testing, care decisions and treatment.

Cardiology: Enabling earlier detection and ongoing monitoring of heart disease

Funds are being used to expand cardiology diagnostic capability through stress testing, EKG, and echocardiogram equipment. These tools are essential for detecting and managing cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death among women. These upgrades are particularly important for postmenopausal women and for patients with a history of gestational complications, who can face elevated long-term cardiovascular risk. In February 2026, Neighborhood Health Clinic began using this equipment following technical training for professional volunteers.

Lab and Pathology: Modernizing diagnostics to improve speed, consistency, and accuracy

The gift is also being used to modernize lab and pathology equipment to streamline diagnostic workflows, reduce turnaround times, and improve the accuracy and consistency of pathology reporting. Faster, more reliable results enable clinicians to make informed decisions sooner—directly improving patient care while strengthening operational efficiency. For patients, this faster turn around means less time away from work and family.

These improvements are expected to deliver measurable benefits for patients and the broader community. More advanced diagnostics support earlier, more accurate diagnoses, particularly for women at higher risk for cardiovascular and infectious diseases. Also, by addressing women’s specific health needs and strengthening diagnostic capacity, the Clinic will help reduce healthcare disparities and promote preventive care.
