Dr. James V. Talano named Alumnus of the Year

Naples, FL – September 18, 2025 – Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine has named James V. Talano, MD, MBA, FACC, as the 2025 Alumnus of the Year for Excellence in Service to Patients. This prestigious recognition honors Dr. Talano’s lifelong commitment to advancing cardiovascular medicine and delivering patient-centered care.

Dr. Talano, a graduate of Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine, was selected from a distinguished pool of alumni leaders for his contributions spanning clinical excellence, medical education, research, community service, and health system leadership. Throughout his decades-long career, Dr. Talano has been recognized nationally for pioneering work in non-invasive cardiology, clinical trials in heart failure and ischemic heart disease, and mentorship of the next generation of physicians.

“Receiving this recognition from Stritch, where my journey in medicine began, is an extraordinary honor,” said Dr. Talano. “The values instilled at Loyola have guided me throughout my career—always prioritizing compassionate care, innovation, and service to the community.”

Dr. Talano currently serves as Director of the SWICFT Institute in Naples, Florida, where he continues to provide cutting-edge cardiovascular care while advancing clinical research. His leadership roles have included Chief of Cardiology at Tulane University and Cleveland Clinic Florida, as well as multiple national committee appointments with the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. In addition, Dr. Talano serves on the Board of Neighborhood Health Clinic and has volunteered his expertise as a physician there for more than 10 years, exemplifying his dedication to providing care for those most in need.

The award will be presented at the Stritch Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 26, 2025, during Stritch Reunion Weekend at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook, Illinois. Dr. Talano and fellow honorees will be recognized for their outstanding achievements and enduring impact on patients, medicine, and society.

This recognition adds to a distinguished career marked by awards for teaching, service, and leadership, underscoring Dr. Talano’s reputation as both a physician-scientist and a compassionate caregiver dedicated to improving lives.
